Frequently asked questions
Two sets of answers: one if you are looking for a hypnotherapist, one if you are one.

For clients
Is WhatHypno free to use?
Yes. When public search opens, you'll be able to search, compare profiles and send an enquiry free, without an account. You can preview the directory today. Each hypnotherapist sets their own session fees, and you agree those with them directly.
Who can call themselves a hypnotherapist?
Anyone. Hypnotherapy is not regulated by law in the UK, so the title is not protected. There are voluntary professional registers, some of them overseen by the Professional Standards Authority, and WhatHypno only lists hypnotherapists whose entry on an accepted register we have checked. Our verification standard lists the registers we accept.
What does "registration checked" mean on a profile?
A person looked up the hypnotherapist's entry on an accepted professional register, recorded their grade and scope, and reviewed their current insurance, on the dates shown. We check registration again at least once a year. Finding the right hypnotherapist is a personal choice, so a short conversation before you book is a good idea.
Can hypnotherapy help with what I'm going through?
We cannot advise on that, but you can ask the hypnotherapist directly before booking. People often see a hypnotherapist for anxiety, sleep problems, confidence or stopping smoking. For symptoms that worry you or will not go away, speak to your GP first. Be cautious of anyone who promises a result or quotes a success rate.
Does sending an enquiry book an appointment?
No. Your enquiry is emailed to the hypnotherapist, who replies to you directly. Agree suitability, fees and any appointment with them.
What happens if a hypnotherapist's insurance runs out?
Their profile is hidden and their badge stops showing active status until we have reviewed current insurance.
How do I raise a concern about a hypnotherapist?
Use our complaints process for anything about a listing or our service. Concerns about someone's professional conduct can also go to the body that holds their registration, which is linked on their profile.
Is WhatHypno a crisis or medical service?
No. If you need urgent help, call 999 in an emergency, or contact Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night.
For hypnotherapists
Who can join?
Current CNHC registration for hypnotherapy, National Hypnotherapy Society practitioner registration or NCH full practising membership, with relevant current insurance. We check the actual entry, grade and advertised scope. Other routes need a separate review before admission. The details are in our verification standard.
How much does membership cost?
Every member pays £10 a month after six calendar months free. Each area has three founding places, and founding members also have Featured placement included. Prices stay the same while you remain a member, with no joining fee. See pricing for the full terms. All prices include VAT.
When do my free months start?
The day your approved profile goes live. Preparing a draft does not start the clock. No card is needed to join, and you add one from your dashboard before your free months end. Your Membership page shows the exact first-payment date, and we remind you 14 and 3 days before it.
Can I cancel?
Yes, online from your account at any time. Cancel before your first-payment date and you pay nothing. Cancelling ends your protected price.
What can I write on my profile?
Describe your approach and the areas you work with in your own words. Profiles follow the advertising rules for hypnotherapy, so we do not publish success rates, guarantees or claims to treat medical conditions, and we may ask you to reword anything that reads that way.
Do you take commission?
No. Enquiries come straight to you, and we take nothing from your sessions or bookings.
What is the WhatHypno badge?
A live badge for your own website, added with the embed code from your dashboard, that links to your profile. Because it is served live, it always shows your current status and stops showing active status if your membership or insurance lapses. See the badge terms.
